The images captured by Andrea Pistolesi of the distinctive landscape surrounding Sri Ksetra — one of Myanmar’s most significant archaeological sites — gave rise to this project. Through photography, the work introduces a precious yet little-known monumental heritage, revealing an early and sophisticated chapter in the history of urbanization in Southeast Asia.
At the heart of the project is the Pyu culture, whose ancient cities represent some of the earliest examples of organized urban life in the region. Long overlooked, these sites offer valuable insight into the development of religious, social, and architectural structures that would later influence much of Southeast Asia.
An extensive photographic gallery, accompanied by a precise archaeological presentation, provides an accessible introduction to one of the best-preserved historical areas of Burma — modern-day Myanmar.
